Verbo reflexivo o verbo no reflexivo

Cada día un poco de práctica (Every day a little practice):

Verbo reflexivo o verbo no reflexivo
(Reflexive verb or non-reflexive verb)

Ejemplos:
1) (Yo) me lavo las manos (Verbo ‘lavarse’ – reflexivo) = I wash my hands
2) (Yo) lavo mis manos (Verbo ‘lavar’ – no reflexivo) = I wash my hands

Ambas oraciones son correctas, pero los hablantes nativos de español prefieren la forma con el verbo reflexivo.
(Both sentences are correct, but native Spanish speakers prefer the form with the reflexive verb.)

Nótese que si se usa el verbo reflexivo se usa el artículo definido antes del sustantivo (‘las’ manos). Cuando se usa el verbo no reflexivo se usa el adjetivo posesivo antes del sustantivo (‘mis’ manos).
(Note that if you use the reflexive verb it is used the definite article before the noun (‘las’ manos). When using the non-reflexive verb it is used the possessive adjective before the noun (‘mis’ manos).)

Sería redundante y por tanto incorrecto decir: Me lavo mis manos (‘me’ y ‘mis’ en la misma oración). Aunque hay hispanohablantes que lo dicen así.
(It would be redundant and therefore incorrect to say: Me lavo mis manos (‘me’ and ‘mis’ in the same sentence). Although there are Spanish speakers who say it that way.)

Muchas veces, sólo la forma reflexiva es correcta.
(Often, only the reflexive form is correct.)

Ejemplos:
1) Juan se pone el abrigo (Verbo ‘ponerse’ - reflexivo) = John puts on his coat
2) Juan pone su abrigo (Verbo ‘poner’ – no reflexivo) = John puts his coat

¿Dónde pone Juan su abrigo? Puede ser sobre la mesa, en el armario o en otro lugar.
(Where does John put his coat? It might be on the table, in the closet or elsewhere.)
