Ejemplos:

Ofertas – Las ofertas

a) Ofertas como ésta no aparecen todos los días. (Offers like this one do not come along every day.)
b) Las ofertas como ésta no aparecen todos los días.

¿Cómo saber si se usa o no el artículo definido? (How to know whether or not to use the definite article?)

Veamos cómo lo diríamos usando el singular. (Let's see shall we say using the singular.)

a) Oferta como ésta no aparece todos los días.
b) Una oferta como ésta no aparece todos los días.
c) La oferta como ésta no aparece todos los días.

La opción b) en singular es la mejor. Por tanto el artículo definido no debe usarse (en singular o plural). (Option b) in the singular is the best. Thus, the definite article should not be used (in the singular or plural).)

Recuerde, si el sustantivo está en plural, pruebe a decirlo en singular (y viceversa). (Remember, if the noun is plural, try to put it in the singular (and vice versa).)

Ahora bien, ¿Debemos entonces usar el artículo indefinido? (However, should we then use the indefinite article?)

a) Ofertas como ésta no aparecen todos los días.
b) Unas ofertas como ésta no aparecen todos los días.

¿Se trata de una expresión general o se refiere sólo a ‘algunas’ ofertas? (Is it a general term or does it refer only to 'some' offers?)

¿Podemos reemplazar ‘unas’ con ‘algunas’? (Can we replace 'unas' with 'algunas'?)

a) Algunas ofertas como ésta no aparecen todos los días. (Some offers like this one do not come along every day.)

Todo dependerá del contexto. Si la respuesta a la última pregunta es ‘sí’, entonces use el artículo indefinido. Si la respuesta es ‘no’, no use el artículo indefinido. (It all depends on the context. If the answer to the last question is ‘yes’, then use the indefinite article. If the answer is 'no', do not use the indefinite article.)
