Direct and Indirect Object Pronouns

[The direct object receives 'directly' the action of the verb (even if it requires using the preposition 'a').]
Por ejemplo, con estos verbos [For instance with these verbs]
saludar
ayudar
apoyar
El actor saluda a la muchedumbre = The actor greets the crowd
El actor la saluda
No: El actor le saluda
El niño ayuda a su papá en el jardín = The boy helps his father in the garden
The government supports the victims of the hurricane
El gobierno las apoya
No: El gobierno les apoya
En cambio, en el siguiente ejemplo el complemento indirecto lleva la preposición 'a' [Instead, in this example the indirect object takes the preposition 'a']
Verbo 'reparar'
Mi tío le repara la ventana a su vecina = My uncle repaired the window to his neighbor
Ejemplo:
El veterinario cura la herida al gato = The veterinarian cures the wound to the cat = The veterinarian cures the cat's wound
('la herida' es complemento directo, 'al gato' es complemento indirecto) ['the wound' is the direct object, 'the cat' is the indirect object]
El veterinario le cura la herida
Pero aquí [But here]
El veterinario cura al gato = The veterinarian cures the cat
El veterinario lo cura ('el gato' es el complemento directo) ['the cat' is the direct object]
