Subjuntivo después de ‘cuando’, ‘si’ y ‘que’.


Cada día un poco de práctica (Every day a little practice):

Subjuntivo después de ‘cuando’, ‘si’ y ‘que’.

Después de ‘cuando’, ‘si’ y ‘que’ se puede usar el indicativo o el subjuntivo (pero el significado cambia).
(After 'cuando (when)', 'si (if)' and 'que (that)' you can use the indicative or the subjunctive (but the meaning changes).)

Cuando

Ejemplos:
(Indicativo). Cuando (yo) tengo hambre, (yo) como mucho = When I am hungry, I eat a lot
(Subjuntivo). Cuando (yo) tenga hambre, (yo) comeré de ese pastel = When I get hungry, I will eat that cake
Cuando tengo hambre = Cuando me da hambre
Cuando tenga hambre = Cuando me dé hambre

Si

Ejemplos:
(Indicativo). Si tengo tiempo, pasaré por la oficina de correos = If I have time, I will go to the post office
(Subjuntivo). Si tuviera tiempo, pasaría por la oficina de correos = If I had time, I would go to the post office

Que

Ejemplos:
1a) (Indicativo). Veo que tengo que hacerlo todo yo solo = I see that I have to do it all myself
1b) (Subjuntivo). Que tenga que hacerlo, no significa que me guste = That I have to do it, does not mean that I like it
2a) (Indicativo). ¿Crees que es conveniente terminarlo hoy? = Do you think (that) it is advisable to finish it today?
2b) (Subjuntivo). ¿Crees que sea conveniente terminarlo hoy? = Do you think (that) it should be advisable to finish it today? = Do you think (that) it should be finished today?
3a) (Indicativo). Creo que habría sido mejor empezar por allá. = I think it would have been better to start there.
3b) (Subjuntivo). Creo que hubiera sido mejor empezar por allá. = I think it had been better to start there. = I think it might have been better to start there.

Todas las oraciones siguientes pueden ser consideradas una posibilidad en el futuro:
(All the following sentences may be considered a possibility for the future:)

Creo que el ladrón pudiere entrar por la ventana. = I think the thief will be able to enter through the window.
Creo que el ladrón podría entrar por la ventana. = I think the thief would be able to enter through the window.
Creo que el ladrón puede entrar por la ventana. = I think the thief can enter through the window.
Creo que el ladrón pudiera/pudiese entrar por la ventana. = I think the thief might enter through the window.
