Usando las preposiciones. Nº 1 [Using prepositions. No. 1]

Vamos a practicar usando las preposiciones con el verbo “comer”. [Let's practice using prepositions with the verb “comer” (to eat).]

Preposición “de”

Comer gratis (porque la comida es gratis) [Eating for free (because the food is free)]
Comer de gratis (sacando ventaja de la situación) [Eating for free (taking advantage of the situation)]

Ejemplos:
En este comedor público se puede comer gratis = At this soup kitchen you can eat for free
A él le gusta comer de gratis, por eso siempre se hace invitar = He likes to eat for free, so he is always forcing others to invite him

Comer tarde = Eating late
Comer de tarde = Eating in the afternoon (También (also): ‘comer en la tarde’, ‘comer por la tarde’)

Ejemplos:
Estoy comiendo tarde porque había un embotellamiento en la autopista = I'm eating late because there was a traffic jam on the highway
Ella nos invitó a comer de tarde, té con galletitas = She invited us to eat in the afternoon, tea with cookies
