Cada día un poco de práctica (Every day a little practice):
Clasificación de las palabras según su acento
(Classification of words according to their accent)
The academic classification is:
1) palabras agudas = acute words = oxytone words = stress on the first syllable (from right to left)
2) palabras graves / palabras llanas = paroxytone words = stress on the second syllable
3) palabras esdrújulas = proparoxytone words = stress on the third syllable
4) palabras sobreesdrújulas = over-proparoxytone words = stress on the fourth or further syllable
These words: oxytone, paroxytone, etc., are barely used.
Some examples
palabras agudas: café (with graphic accent, coffee), papel (without graphic accent, paper).
palabras graves: árbol (with graphic accent, tree), alma (without graphic accent, soul).
palabra esdrújula: música (all of them have accent, music).
palabra sobreesdrújula: químicamente (with graphic accent, chemically), intensivamente (without graphic accent, intensively)
